Sustainability at Roots
Let's be real: no clothing brand is truly "sustainable". If someone tells you otherwise, they're probably greenwashing. We know that every hoodie, every tee, every bit of kit comes with a footprint. But we believe clothing brands and consumers can make better choice - and we're here to prove it, one thread at a time.
"Chasing sustainability is a bit like chasing the perfect wave - you'll never catch it if you just stand on the shore. Paddle out, wipe out, learn and paddle again. Every effort counts, even if you're not riding clean and green all the way to beach. The point is to keep moving forward. This is the ethos we live by at Roots."- Lucas Brendon, Director and Head of Media.
How we make our stuff.
We always put planet and people first. We're picky about who print our gear. Some of our products are printed with Make Good Prints, a small team in Dartington, Devon, who only use water-based, solvent-free inks. Their studio runs on good vibes and a genuine commitment to being more sustainable, not just ticking boxes. For other lines we use Teemill. They print everything on-demand (so there's no landfill-bound leftovers), power their factory with renewale energy and design every product to be sent back and remade when it's worn out. Circular fashion isn't just a buzzword - it's how we keep our tees out of the bin.
